“Africa” Notebook

10,00

An A5 notebook inspired by the engraving “Africa”, one of the rare surviving examples of large format prints published in Paris in the 17th century with the aim of making engraving a viable rival to painting.

Usually pulled by elephants, the carriage with the Allegory of Africa is also pulled by a rhinoceros, inspired by Albrecht Dürer’s famous woodcut. A notepad to take everywhere, with a unique design, only available in DRCN shops.

Happy jotting!

Inspired by:

Africa. Coenradt Lauuers (after Louis Licherie), Pierre Landry (publisher), Paris, France, 17th century, Engraving

Carved by Conrad Lauwers, from a composition by Louis Licherie de Beurie, it was edited by Pierre Landry, an engraver and dealer established on the rue de Saint Jacques in Paris.

The example in Lamego Museum is the only one known to belong to the series entitled “The four parts of the world”.
