The main goal of this publication about Saint John of Tarouca Monastery is to provide a general presentation of the knowledge gathered throughout 17 years of historical-archaeological research in an accessible way. “Saint John of Tarouca Monastery. History, Architecture and the Quotidian” thus arose from the need to provide support to those visiting the monastic site.
The work, which stems from research carried out by Luís Sebastian and Ana Sampaio e Castro over the last two decades, deconstructs concepts and creates a common thread that takes the reader back to the 6th century and from there (re)discover the origins of the Cistercian Order and the construction of Saint John of Tarouca Monastery, entering into its history and its daily life.
